Guidelines & Rules

General Rules

  • Artists are required to bring their own equipment of makeup and tools and additional lighting if needed (for example. ring light).
  • Power points are provided by Messukeskus. In case to use any electrical equipment artists are recommended to bring their own extension cord.
  • All products use on a model needs to be suitable for the skin and non-toxic.
  • All categories are open for all the professional makeup artists around the world. (Except Creative Make-up category only for the artists living in Finland.)
  • Successful professional category participants have graduated from recognizable makeup school or have been working as a makeup artist for more than 2 years.
  • Student categories are open for all the student. (Except Creative Make-up only for the artists living in Finland).
  • Successful student category participants are studying to become a makeup artist in any recognizable makeup school.
  • All competitors are required to submit a mood board of their chosen design; this should include sketches, planning, story of your character (max.200 words) and the final design. All mood boards should have the name of your work.
  • Models will be holding the artist’s mood board during the judging.
  • Artists works will be presented in the awarding ceremony name of artist or artists and the name of the work will be presented to the audience. Awarding ceremony takes place on the stage nearby competition area.
  • Sign up fee needs to be paid before the competition day. Artists will be asked to bring the receipt of their purchase on the arrival.
  • Communication during the competition is forbidden with anyone else except with the model, assistant or event organizers.
  • There won’t be any money returns after registration to competition closes. Sign up fee won’t be returned even if the artist cancels participation in the competition.
  • Artists are responsible for any damage they might cause to their model, themselves or the competition area.
  • Artists must supply their own model aged 16 years and above.
  • Bodypainting models have the opportunity to use a shower nearby competition area after the awarding ceremony. Organizers will give you further information on the arrival.

Technical beauty make-up for professionals (open for all professionals)

  • Theme: 60’s Magazine cover
  • 1 hour is given to complete the make-up look.
  • Judging criteria: quality and technique, cleanness & blending, use of colour, overall look, relevance to the theme.
  • Sign up fee: 85€

Allowed:

  • Wigs, hair extensions, hair may be prepared in advance. Hair won’t be given any extra points.
  • Costume (prepared before the competition).
  • Lashes

Not allowed:

  • Prosthetics.
  • Bald caps.
  • Masks or mask pieces.
  • Eye contacts.
  • Airbrush.
  • Theatrical makeup.
  • Any glued items. (except lashes)
  • Facepainting

SFX for the face (all professionals and students)

  • Theme: “Spiritual world”.
  • 3 hours is given to complete the makeup application.
  • Judging criteria: quality and technique, cleanness & blending, overall look, relevance to the theme, quality & design of prosthetic.
  • Sign up fee: 85€

Allowed:

  • Prosthetics, latex based items. (application during the competition).
  • Wigs, hair extensions, headpieces. (application during the competition).
  • Bald caps. (application during the competition).
  • Airbrush.
  • Costume (recommended).

Not allowed:

  • Painting/colouring any prosthetics before the competition.
  • Applying or gluing anything to the skin before the competition.

Facepainting

  • Theme: “Surrealism”.
  • 2 hours is given to complete the look.
  • Judging criteria: Quality and technique, Cleanness & Blending, Use of colour, Overall look, Relevance to the theme.
  • Sign up fee: 85€

Allowed:

  • Wigs, hairdressings, headpieces. (can be prepared and applied before the competition).
  • Hands can be painted advance (won’t be given any extra points).
  • Costume (is allowed to prepared before the competition).
  • Glitters, gems, pearls, feathers, etc.

Not allowed:

  • Prosthetics.
  • Bald caps.
  • Any material that obscures more than 1/4 of the face, neck, décolletage.
  • Apply any paint to face, neck or décolletage before the competition starts.

Bodypainting

  • Theme: “Time before us”
  • 5 hours is given to complete the look.
  • Judging criteria: quality and technique, cleanness & blending, use of colour, overall look, relevance to the theme.
  • Sign up fee 85€.

Allowed:

  • Artist may work with 1 assistant / or a partner.
  • 3/4 of models body should be painted.
  • Model’s underwear can be painted before the competition.
  • Glitters, gems, pearls, etc.
  • Lashes.
  • Eye contacts.
  • Wigs, hair decoration, headpieces. (can be prepared before the competition).
  • Airbrush.
  • Use of any material including prosthetics. (All decorations on a glue base should take no more than 1/4 of the body).
  • Prosthetics may be glued on the model before the competition.

Not allowed:

  • Any painting/colouring before the competition.
  • Any material that obscures more than 1/4 of the body.
  • Painting/ colouring prosthetics before the competition.
